We have been around with web sites are professional already since the 90s. Work projects have taken us all around the Europe, but still we keep on getting in to situations, where our customer does not actually know anything about Europe. Today I came up with Eemi Tirronen’s excellent post at LinkedIn, from which I am taking something her now, you can find the whole post at: https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:6898711113739976704/

When You want to target to Finns with Finnish, You should know something about Finland, and not all that works in the rest of the World, does not actually work the same way with Finns and Finnish. We have written earlier about Finns and Gambling.

But what did Eemi actually wrote,

The phrase “SEO can increase your organic traffic” (37 letters) translated into Finnish is “Hakukoneoptimointi voi kasvattaa orgaanista liikennettäsi” (57 letters). That’s 20 letters more than in English, and you have the same number of characters (or pixels) to use in meta texts.

💡𝐓𝐢𝐩: Try to find short keywords or use long keywords without suffixes to make the words shorter. Use short keywords to save space on meta texts and make them more click-friendly.

Given how complex the Finnish language is, it is not surprising that specific Finnish keywords have fewer searches.

For example, ”car insurance” has 673,000 searches per month in the UK and the equivalent Swedish search term ”bilförsäkring” 60,500 searches. In Finland, the keyword ”autovakuutus” has only 14,800 searches per month, even though insurance is a large sector in Finland.

Because the Finnish population is relatively small (5.5 million), it can be difficult to find relevant, highly authoritative websites for link building campaigns. Fortunately, you don’t have to get all your backlinks from .fi domains to rank for top positions in Finland.

I rank websites regularly on top search positions in Finland, with less than 1/3 of the backlinks coming from .fi domains. The added benefit of this approach is that it decreases the amount of money you spend on link building.

💡𝐓𝐢𝐩: Team up with a local digital marketing partner that understands the Finnish market and knows which websites give backlinks. Avoid spending your entire link building/outreach budget on .fi links, as they can be pricey and hard to get. -> We believe Eemi can help you with these – and no, we are not partners with Eemi or his company NXT Conversion.
